The new groundwater management process GWM, developed for compatibility with
MODFLOW-2000 will be discussed. This process was released by the USGS in April
2005 and makes it possible to solve groundwater management formulations coupling
MODFLOW simulations with optimization. Problems in water supply, ecosystem protection
and groundwater contamination can be addressed with this technique. Its capabilities
will be considered along with algorithmic structure for handling nonlinear features
in MODFLOW.
